Sanitary standards for solid waste landfills

Solid domestic waste landfills are intended for the storage of garbage coming from residential buildings, trade enterprises, medical treatment facilities, without harm to the environment. Safety criteria are reflected in normative acts called “Sanitary and Epidemiological Rules and Norms”, otherwise - SanPiN or SP. Compliance with SanPiN is mandatory for obtaining a license for the construction of a landfill for waste storage, as well as, possibly, the use of gas released by organic waste. Isolation of garbage is necessary to ensure the sanitary safety of the population. The requirements for solid waste landfills include taking into account the relief and environmental features of the area. It is forbidden to place these objects in the area of severe wetland.

SanPiN oblige:

1.to sort the received waste, determining the possibility of their storage;

2.to control the impact on soil, groundwater, atmosphere, noise level;

3.purify the filtrate;

4.prevent fire, wind scattering of debris, pollution of the surrounding area;

5.Provide land reclamation.

For further use of the site, the waste is covered with a layer of soil. Its value depends on the method of further use of the place. Planting prevents erosion and weathering of the soil.

Joint ventures prohibit the placement of landfills near public places of recreation for people protected by cultural and natural areas. Construction is possible at a distance of at least 500 m from residential buildings, taking into account the distribution of gas released by waste. There should be a fence in the form of a fence, ditch or embankment. Residential buildings, office buildings, enterprises can enter into contracts with the waste collection service. Sanitary standards for the storage of solid waste are designed to ensure the safety of people and the environment. They regulate, inter alia, the export of solid waste. With changes in the legislation, the transition to which has taken place since January 2019, the regular removal of waste to landfills is equated with communal services. After obtaining a license, local governments can conduct compliance checks SanPiN.
