Is garbage sorting a new hype or a necessity?

Since 1950, global plastic production has grown from 2 million tons to 380 million tons per year (equivalent to 2/3 of the world's population). Of these, only 9% were recycled and another 12% burned.

Over all this time, humanity has produced 7.8 billion tons of plastic (more than a ton for every living person), and according to the latest data, the amount of this plastic will grow. If we do not stop consuming it at such a rate, then in our landfills by 2050 there will be 12 billion tons of plastic.

Most of the plastic produced by mankind exists in one form or another on earth and, as you know, only 12% of it was burned. If current trends continue, by 2050 there will be 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfills.
