Почему важно сортировать отходы?

Big changes start with simple habits!

Today, the waste problem is becoming more serious all over the world. Many people think, “What can one person do?” In fact, everything is quite simple — it all starts with waste separation.

Sorting waste is not only about cleanliness, but also about protecting nature, saving resources, and caring for the health of future generations.

When waste is thrown away mixed together, recycling becomes difficult or even impossible. As a result:

  • Nature is polluted — soil, water, and air are harmed.

  • Landfills fill up quickly — increasing the need for new dumping sites.

  • Valuable resources are wasted — recyclable materials like plastic, paper, and metal are lost.

  • Environmental problems increase — burning waste worsens air quality.

Separating waste makes recycling easier and reduces pressure on the environment.

What types of waste are there?

To start sorting waste, it is important to know the main categories:

Organic waste
Food leftovers, fruit and vegetable peels, tea and coffee grounds.

Plastic
Plastic bags, bottles, containers, and packaging (such as yogurt or juice containers).

Paper and cardboard
Newspapers, notebook pages, boxes, and cardboard packaging.

Glass
Glass bottles, jars, and other glass containers.

Metal
Cans, aluminum beverage containers.

Hazardous waste
Batteries, light bulbs, medicine leftovers, electronic waste (phones, chargers, etc.).
⚠️ Mixing these with regular household waste is very harmful!

How should waste be sorted?

Waste separation is not difficult — the key is to make it a habit. At home or at work, having 3–5 separate bins is enough:

🟢 1. Organic waste
Food leftovers. If possible, they can be composted.

🔵 2. Paper and cardboard
Must be clean and dry. Greasy or dirty paper may not be recyclable.

🟡 3. Plastic
It is recommended to rinse and dry containers. Very dirty plastic is hard to recycle.

⚪️ 4. Glass and metal
Glass should be collected without breaking; metal cans can be compressed.

🔴 5. Hazardous waste
Store separately and take to special collection points.

A small step — a big result!

By sorting waste, we help the environment every day. Most importantly, we can teach this habit to our families, friends, and people around us.
