Construction of a waste incineration plant has begun in Fergana

It is known that in recent years, at the initiative of our head of state, special attention has been paid to the issues of environmental protection, in particular, to the transformation of waste into an important part of the economy. In this direction, a number of measures are being implemented aimed at effective management of the industry, reducing the number of landfills, and ensuring public satisfaction.

In particular, agreements were signed between the Director of the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency under the Ministry of Ecology and the head of China Everbright International LLC, a leading environmental company in the People's Republic of China.

According to these agreements, a project to generate electricity through thermal processing of waste will be implemented in stages in the Fergana region. This project is being implemented by the large Chinese company "China Everbright International" LLC.

In this context, on March 24 of this year, the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-117 - "On measures to implement investment projects for the production of electricity by burning solid household waste" was adopted.

In accordance with the resolution, the environmental situation in the region will be improved, as well as modern solutions and technologies will be introduced in the field of waste processing, which will allow the production of electricity and attract direct investments to the industry.

In the Fergana region, China Everbright International LLC has attracted a total investment of $141.5 million. It is planned to process 1.5 thousand tons of waste daily or up to 547 thousand tons per year, which will allow the production of 227.5 million kWh of electricity per year. The project will also create 150-200 new jobs. The project is scheduled to launch in 2025-2027.

According to the agreements on the supply of solid household waste and the purchase of electricity, the electricity generated by the company will be guaranteed to be sold by "Uzenergosotish" JSC for 30 years.

For reference: the plan provides for the construction of electricity generation complexes by thermal processing of waste in six regions - Tashkent, Andijan, Namangan, Fergana, Kashkadarya, and Samarkand regions. The projects of the enterprises were presented to the head of state in October 2024

The foundation stone for a waste incineration plant has been laid on an 8-hectare site near the village of Oqbilol in the Fergana district, and construction work has begun.

The opening ceremony was attended by investors, the regional governor, representatives of the ecology and waste management departments, sector officials, representatives of mahallas, sanitation and cleaning enterprises, as well as the general public.

In July of this year, the construction of two waste incineration plants began simultaneously: one in Andijan in cooperation with "China International CAMC Engineering," and the second in Samarkand with the participation of "Shanghai SUS Environment."

These initiatives align with the principles of a "green economy," contribute to ensuring Uzbekistan's environmental sustainability and creating a clean and healthy future for future generations!
