The municipal solid waste landfill located in Akhangaran district of Tashkent region was established in 1971 and occupies a total area of 59 hectares. In April–June 2023, the landfill underwent full reclamation works, and its entire surface was completely covered with soil. In addition, buildings and facilities within the landfill area were renovated, concrete curbs were installed along part of the access roads, and a 3,000 sq.m section of deteriorated roadway was resurfaced with asphalt pavement.
On December 31, 2022, a contract No. SUE/Maxsustrans/ICB-W1 (R) was signed between the Chinese company "Stecol-Power China Guiyang" and the state enterprise "Maxsustrans Production Management," within the framework of which the construction of a new landfill meeting modern international standards began on the adjacent territory of the old landfill in the Akhangaran district. In September 2024, construction work was fully completed, and the new landfill was commissioned based on the conclusion of the state commission on the acceptance of the facility. This landfill is designed for the safe disposal of household waste, ensuring environmental protection, and improving the sanitary condition of the region. The total area of the new landfill is 31.2 hectares, of which three special pits have been built on an area of 24.4 hectares. Within the framework of the project, earthworks totaling 2.26 million m3 were carried out. The total capacity of the landfill is 7.66 million m3, which allows for its operation for 12 years. Modern engineering solutions have been implemented at the facility to ensure environmental safety. Specifically, to prevent the negative impact of chemical and liquid waste on groundwater, a special protective layer consisting of four layers of bentonite and geosynthetic materials has been created. Additionally, special gas pipelines have been installed for the subsequent neutralization and processing of methane gases generated at the landfill, which will reduce the volume of harmful emissions into the environment. Additionally, the following have been built on the facility's territory:
- a 0.7 hectare wastewater collection tank;
- administrative and management building with an area of 0.76 hectares;
- internal roads and other infrastructure facilities on an area of 2.94 hectares. An access road with a length of 1.8 kilometers has been laid to the training ground.To determine the mass of the incoming waste, two electronic scales with a capacity of 60 tons each have been installed. To ensure security and constant monitoring, 8 360-degree video surveillance cameras have been commissioned at the facility. The modern municipal solid waste landfill is of great importance for ensuring environmentally safe services for the population, systematic waste management, and maintaining the sanitary and environmental stability of the region.
