As previously reported, in order to ensure fire safety at municipal solid waste landfills, sanitary cleaning measures were carried out across the republic from July 13 to August 21 of this year as part of the "Actual 40 Days." During the events, 32 cases of fires were recorded at solid waste landfills located in 24 districts and cities across 10 regions of the republic. Eighty-nine units of specialized equipment were involved in the rapid response and extinguishing of the fire. During the work, 23,032 cubic meters of soil and 215 cubic meters of fresh water were used.

To prevent repeated fires, an additional soil reserve of approximately 25,000 cubic meters has been formed in the landfill territories. The fire sources were moved by special equipment, covered with soil, and leveled. These measures are aimed at preventing the repeated spread of fire and increasing the level of fire safety at landfills. To date, out of a total landfill area of 1,235 hectares, work has been carried out on an area of 312.7 hectares to move waste and bring storage sites into proper condition.

Additionally, at landfills, work is continuing on a permanent basis to place, move, and compact waste in accordance with established technological requirements, as well as to insulate it with soil. The ongoing activities are aimed at ensuring fire safety, tidying up landfills, and improving waste management processes.
