March 30 was established by the UN as the International Day for a World Without Waste. This day is designed to promote waste reduction, the spread of responsible consumption, and the development of a recycling culture. In 2026, global attention within the framework of this date will focus specifically on the issue of reducing food waste. This issue is also extremely relevant for the city of Tashkent: in 2025, a total of 1.1 million tons of waste was collected in the capital. Approximately 3,000 tons of waste are collected and removed daily in the city using 320 units of specialized equipment.
The Tashkent City Khokimiyat approaches waste management not only as a task of municipal services but also as an important area of ecology, modern urban management, and civic culture. To this end, the "Clean Capital" system has been implemented in the capital to digitalize waste management processes. This system allows for tracking the movement of special garbage trucks, the territories assigned to them, their state license plates, and the days of garbage removal for each district.
In addition, appeals from the population are accepted and sent directly to the responsible persons through the platform xalqnazorati.uz. This serves to improve the quality of appeals, reduce the time required to resolve problems, and ensure the transparency of the system. Practical work is also being carried out in the field of processing. In particular, the "Profpack" enterprise in Yangikhayot district processes about 2.5 thousand tons of paper waste per month. In addition, special projects aimed at separately collecting plastic waste and increasing the efficiency of its recycling are being considered.
The issue of control and responsibility is also constantly at the center of attention. Specifically, during raids conducted in the capital last year, 2025, over 2 billion soums in fines were imposed for waste disposal in undesignated locations. Today's date reminds us of another important truth: the problem of waste is not solved by removing it. Especially based on the global theme of 2026, preventing food waste, promoting a culture of sorting, a responsible attitude toward environmental cleanliness, and respect for the labor of system employees must become a daily habit for each of us.
