According to available data, about 14 million tons of waste are generated annually in Uzbekistan, but only 4–5 percent of the total volume is sent for recycling. The rest of the waste is placed in landfills, which has a significant impact on the environment. As a result of waste accumulation at landfills, more than 7 million tons of greenhouse gases and about 43 thousand tons of toxic filters enter the atmosphere and soil annually, which negatively affects the environmental situation, air quality, the state of land resources, and public health.

In order to improve the environmental situation and improve the waste management system in Uzbekistan, a number of large-scale measures are being consistently implemented: Modern equipment has been installed at more than 80 enterprises in the country, allowing for a reduction in waste volumes and an increase in the efficiency of their processing. In the coming years, it is planned to build 8 new waste processing plants, which will significantly increase the capacity for recycling and reuse of raw materials.Programs are being developed and implemented to form a culture of separate waste collection among the population, as well as to increase awareness of the possibility of obtaining additional income by transferring secondary raw materials for processing.

The rational management of waste, its sorting, and recycling are the most important conditions for preserving the environment, reducing negative impacts on nature, and creating favorable living conditions for future generations. Together, we can make our country cleaner, safer, and greener.
