Waste recycling projects presented

On August 14, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on measures to expand waste processing. Modern approaches are being implemented in this field, which is of great importance for the country's prosperity and public health. Over the past three years, more than 2 trillion UZS have been allocated from all sources. Last year, the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency was established.

1,200 units of new machinery were purchased for waste management enterprises. Waste collection sites have been built in the mahallas. Due to the improvement of the collection and transportation system, the sector has become a source of secondary raw materials. This sector, which was previously a state monopoly, has been opened to entrepreneurship and a favorable business environment has been created. In particular, for sanitation and processing enterprises, the corporate income tax and social tax rates are set at 1 percent. Machinery and equipment imported from abroad are exempt from customs duties. As a result, about 200 sanitary treatment facilities and 290 processing enterprises have been established.

During the presentation, responsible persons provided information on the implementation of projects and plans for the future. Every year, 14 million tons of household waste are generated in the country, but the level of their processing remains low. Thanks to projects implemented in recent years, this figure has reached 5 percent. Projects to generate energy by burning waste are being supported. Chinese investors are building such plants in six regions. The state undertakes not only to pay for waste disposal but also to purchase the generated energy. Recently, two enterprises for burning medical waste and generating thermal energy were commissioned in Tashkent. It is planned to build two more such plants in Samarkand and one each in other regions.

A quarter of household waste consists of paper, plastic, rubber, glass, and textile waste. Their processing can yield raw materials worth 1 trillion UZS. In addition, the country has significant potential in the field of processing construction, chemical, electronic, technical waste and industrial oils. It was emphasized that waste collection services must meet the needs of the population. In this regard, the task was set to create the possibility of online tracking of the arrival time and route of garbage trucks to each mahalla. An instruction was given to develop a two-year program to fully provide social institutions and mahallas with waste containers. The importance of forming an environmental culture in society starting from kindergartens and schools was noted.
